Bio: Sandra Slatter

biopic.jpg Sandra Slatter is an author, writer, cancer survivor and a truly inspirational woman.

Prior to her cancer diagnosis of Mantle Cell Lymphoma in 2003 and subsequent stem cell transplant in 2004  Sandra ran a successful business specialising in economic and business development.  She was awarded the Centenary Medal for her contribution to small business in rural and regional Victoria.

Since her transplant her life has taken a dramatic change, one could say a complete about face.

 In just three years  Sandra has completed Post Graduate Studies in Civil Ceremonies; is the author, co author and editor of three books:
Shadows & Light – Journeying through Cancer,  a book about her own transplant story;

Celebrating Life – a  commemorative book marking the 20th Anniversary of Transplantation at the Royal Melbourne Hospital;

An Education and Resource guide for transplant recipients and their carers.

She has also contributed several articles for National Womens and Health magazines.

In 2003 she developed and submitted a ‘caretaker model' to assist small business operators faced with a life threatening illness to the Office of Small Business (Victoria).  The department has now engaged a consultant to undertake a Feasibility Study.

Sandra is also the founder of the Living Well Project a support care and rehabilitation program which she has been developing over the last couple of years.   Currently there is no form of rehabilitation for cancer survivors and virtually once the treatment has ceased  many survivors feel they are on their own.   In an endeavour to raise the awareness of the physical and emotional difficulties faced by those surviving cancer as well as raising funds to develop this much needed program  Sandra has been preparing and training for perhaps one of the biggest challenges in her life -  The Camino Way, a 900km walk across the top of Spain.
